Springtown Sweetview Farm BarnCam

We now have four babies roaming around Springtown Farm with their moms!

Alligator was born to Saystar on April 22nd, Big Daddy's Little Chili Pepper (or Chili for short) was born to Ginger on April 29th, and Freudian Conquest was born to Royal Conquest (or Relly) on May 20th. Rita had her baby on May 23rd, but we haven't named her yet. As long as they are not out in the field, they will be in the stall on the BarnCam on the Media page

Please be aware that because this web cam is hosted on a cable internet connection, there is a limit to the number of people who can watch at any given time. Please don't leave the video open on your computer unless you are watching.

The camera that we are using has no night vision, so if the video is dark it may just be night time. We will eventually be replacing the camera with one that has night vision so that we don't have to leave a light on when we are expecting a foal.

Alligator's Birth
aka A New Star is Born

Saystar gave birth to Alligator on April 22nd, at 8:20pm. Because she gave birth at a reasonable hour and Tina wasn't the only one around, we were able to video the birth and invite a few friends over to see and meet the baby. The baby got stuck, and Tina had to lend a hand getting Alligator to come out and play. Within an hour he had gotten up and was walking around the stall. This video is of the birth and first hour of his life.

The Flood

In the Spring of 2007, our farmhouse was flooded. The video below was recorded several hours before the peak of the flooding, which happened sometime during the night.

The House Lifting

Because of the location of the house and the distinct possibility that we would be flooded again, we eventually settled on the unorthidox plan of having the house lifted and a block foundation built underneath. These plans were obviously only possible because of FEMA, our flood insurance, and the many friends who helped us (emotionally and financially) manage the building process. The owners of our borders were also very helpful and understanding of the problems and needs that this unique situation posed.

We videoed the fantastic work done by Atlantic Structure Movers, who were responsible for hydraulically lifting the existing house.

As the project progresses, I will be posting more video and photographs of the project.

We are very thankful for:

Jim Luckner, our engineer
Robert Stanmeyer and co., responsible for the new block work
John Hughes and his crew, involved in all things carpentry
Frank Rochetti, various and sundry
Brett Hansen, sundry and various

As this project progresses, I will post more information here.

Thanks,
Justin
